Entry for Saturday, September 15, 2007
Winds were 15-20 and the temperature was a little cool. For the first time this year, I wore jeans and a sweat shirt to sail. I got out of the marina about 20 minutes after Steve and Martha (Beneteau 323) and 15 minutes after Roger (Ranger 26). Sailed up Broad Slough and turned east up the Sacramento River thinking I was following the Beneteau. Earlier, Steve told me he was going “up river.” So I followed the only sailboat in the distance for 14 miles up to Decker Island only to find out that it was Roger going to karaoke at the Outrigger! He dropped sail and quickly disappeared under the 3 Mile Slough Bridge. Not liking the idea of sailing back (to weather) by myself, I turned around and joined a passing Ranger 33. The wind picked up enough to need a reef as we took turns tacking across the river. We met up with George (Pearson 30), Mike (Pearson 30), and Steve around Sherman Island. They turned with us and five boats were raced to weather to the top of Broad Slough. A true “Antioch Salute.” 2007-09-18 19:10:47 GMT
