From nothing, to18Kts for two hours is what happened on Friday. I was down at the marina eating lunch with Mike Barron (Jerry’s chili dog) who shortly after, left to ride his motorcycle. The wind started to pick up at 3:00pm. So I ran to prep the boat for a quick sail. On my way, I woke Steve (Beneteau guy) from a nap on his boat who said he’d follow me out. Canvas off, sheets, reef? –no reef? head sail, motor, reef? –yes reef, “Looks like the wind might be building.” Finally ready, and off the dock I went. Outside the marina, I quickly raised sails and sheeted in. “Something didn’t look right,” turns out I forgot to feed the sheet through the port side car. So I tacked to fix the problem but when I pulled on the starboard sheet a knot wrapped tight around the car. Ok… Head-up, go forward, undo the knot, then, fix the sheet through the car. Finally, sailing up Broad Slough I saw about 6 Kts on the water chasing the Beneteau. Never caught him but managed to close distance at the top of the Slough. Fell-off the wind and sailed around Chain Island but fell well behind when the wind died. Barely had enough wind to sail back to the marina. I guess the sailing season is almost over. 2007-09-26 13:53:19 GMT
