(Larger Image) I’m really late putting this out.  But here’s the story on the 40+ foot steel hulled ketch that went aground at the Windsurfing beach early in December. You’re hearing this second hand.  Mike, Red, and Fred told me what happened so don’t expect me to retell the story as good as they tell it.  I suggest that after reading this you ask to hear it from the source.  So here goes.  Mike, Red, and Fred out sailing (east) up the San Joaquin River.  They pass a 40+ foot steel hulled ketch with a party (pontoon) boat side tied to it.  The ketch’s sails flapping in the wind as they head down river (west).  Ok, they think, that was neat.  They sailed-on and turned north through Sherman Lake turning left at the Sacramento heading west toward Pittsburg.  Still westbound, just past the top of Broad Slough they catch up to… you know it. The 40+ foot steel hulled ketch with the party boat side tied to it.  As our group got closer someone on the ketch yelled “Do you know where the Sacramento River is?”  Now I’ve sailed plenty of times with these three gents and can only imagine the look on their faces after hearing that question.  Needless to say, they politely yelled back “You’re on it.”  The same voice returned “Do you know which way it is to Sacramento.  My god!  You’ve got to be kidding?  must have passed though the minds of the Pearson's crew at that particular moment.  I wasn’t there, but I can only imagine that all three of our group responded by pointing the correct direction (opposite of what they were doing) in lew of expressing what they were really thinking - “The other way, stupid."
