Pursuit or Reverse PHRF
The majority of  boats in our races have a PHRF rating of 180. These start at 5:30.  If  your boat's rating is higher than 180, you can calculte your head start by subtracting 180 from your PHRF and multyplying it by the number of miles of the course being raced. This will give you the number of seconds that you soould leave before 5:30 ( your headstart).

Example for a boat rating of 234...
234 - 180 = 54  X 12 NM = 648 sec/60 = 10.8 or roughly 11 minutes.
Your start time is
5:19

If you boat is less than 180, say a rating of 140...
180 - 140 = 40  X 12 NM =480 sec/60 =8 minites. Your start time is
5:38

If you don't want to do the math, look for the handicap table for each of the courses to get a rough estimate of when to start.
